Chapter Five Reflection:
1) Explain the options for connecting to the internet and the advantages and disadvantages of those connection possibilities.
In today’s society the use of the computer and access to the internet fall hand in hand. As more and more advances in technology are made daily the use of the internet also increases. Everyone should have some sort of access to the internet thus there are multiple ways of connecting to the internet. First an individual must establish an internet connection with his or her computer. In order to do this, however, the computer one is working from must have an internet provider and the software required for accessing the internet. Internet providers charge fees for allowing you access to the internet through their company. As a customer you can choose the package that best fits your access needs. Some connections are fast while others can be very slow. One can get the internet through a dial up connection using a house phone land line, cable lines, or choose wireless or a Digital Subscriber Line. Once a connection is established some providers that can be used are Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. Some disadvantages to various connections are the price of the equipment needed for the initial set up. Another inconvenience is that one is required to sign a contract and subscribe to an internet plan. Also, in areas using satellite internet connections the weather conditions greatly affect the service.
