Chapter Eight Reflection:
Discuss the effective uses of digital diagrams in teaching and learning.
When teaching a lesson, digital diagrams provide visual learning tools for students. Illustrations are helpful in that many students need to be able to see the information being presented as well as hearing it in lecture form in order to ensure maximum learning. Teachers also benefit from the uses of digital diagrams. Teachers can generate lesson plans from visual diagrams and can use these visual representations to teach their students. By showing students visual diagrams teachers are able to further justify that data being taught and supplement the learning of the students. Such visual demonstrations include concept maps, idea maps, storyboards and the use of webs. Concept maps are good for indentifying relationships between topics. For example, with a concept map you start with a main topic or subject and then branch off that main topic with supporting details and topics. Idea maps are another great way to visually represent ideas. Idea maps are good to use for brainstorming and are created as the student generates ideas from a main topic or idea. Storyboards allow students to visually plan for a project. Webs provide a way to show how different portions of information relate to one another. With a web generally ideas will branch off of the main idea.
